Routine Emptying, Without The Last-Minute Rush
Regular emptying removes the sludge that builds up in your septic tank. It helps protect the drainage field and reduces the risk of problems disrupting your home or business. AK Services arranges one-off and planned emptying for properties away from the mains sewer.
Whether you have just moved in, lost track of your last visit or want to plan ahead, tell us what you know about the system. We can discuss an appropriate emptying interval based on its size, use and manufacturer’s instructions.
How Often Should A Septic Tank Be Emptied?
For systems covered by England’s general binding rules, sludge should be removed at least once a year or in line with the manufacturer’s instructions, before it exceeds the system’s capacity. The right schedule also depends on tank size, occupancy and use; a busy property may need more frequent visits.
A cesspit stores sewage rather than treating and discharging it, so it normally needs emptying more often. Arrange regular collections based on capacity and use, and do not wait for it to overflow. Read the Environment Agency’s septic tank guidance and cesspool guidance.
Sewage Treatment Plant Emptying
Treatment plants also accumulate sludge and require periodic desludging. Share the make, model and maintenance instructions when booking so we can discuss the correct collection. Emptying complements the plant’s servicing schedule; it does not replace checks on pumps, blowers or other mechanical parts.
Responsible Waste Removal And Disposal
AK Services’ waste carrier registration is CBDU 89574, with disposal arrangements through Anglian Water. Ask us for our registration details and the documentation relevant to your collection. Collected sewage waste is taken for appropriate disposal.
Using a registered carrier is part of responsible tank ownership. Emptying alone does not establish that a drainage system meets discharge requirements. If you have concerns about its discharge or condition, see the government guidance on septic tanks and treatment plants and discuss an inspection.
